2023年にRivetの150周年にTCBが作ったのは1880年代にRivetを使う事が出来なかったLevi以外のジーンズにスポットを当てました。
そして2024年にTCBが作る事にしたのは、Rivetの特許が取れた1890年にこぞってライバルたちがRivetを打ったジーンズを販売し始めて、その時にLeviが対抗する為につくった廉価版『No2』になります。

もちろんそんなスペシャルなVintageを私だけの力で参考にする事なんて不可能で、今回はVingtageコレクターの古泉さんに協力を得て作らせて頂く事になりました。

何故私たちにこんな機会を与えて頂けるんだろうと思い私は初めてお話しさせて頂く時に恐る恐る聞きました。
そうすると古泉さんは
『日本にせっかくあるなら日本の物作りで活かしてもらえたらと思いまして！』
『今手元にVintageが有るのも生きてる間の預かり物』
との事。（一語一句は曖昧ですよ）
それを聞いて実は私も同じ事を思ってました。
誰かに『TCBは工場とか技術をOPENにし過ぎでは？』
と言われた事が有りました。
でも持論としては悲しいかな私がジーンズを開発した訳でも無ければミシンを開発した訳でも無い。
きっとこの時代にてミシンや技術や古着を預からせて頂いてるだけで、どちらかと言うとそのバトンを次に落とさない様に渡す方が大事。
古泉さんとのやり取りでその思いが強くなったのが事実です。

さぁそんな思いで作らせて頂いた1890年モデルのNo2を4/20に発表させて頂きます。
生地で語る事が多過ぎて発表日までに商品のディテールの紹介が出来ませんでした。
発表後にも製品の紹介は続けたいと思いますが、まずは明日の紹介を楽しみにして頂けたらと思います。
DENIM上下で年間365日を過ごす男としてはブラウスも作りたいと思い、そこは様々な写真や文献から妄想品として作らせて頂きました。

In 2023, the the 150th anniversary year of riveted pants, TCB dared to shed a spotlight on the 1880s jeans which could not be made with the rivets for a patent reason. In 2024, TCB has decided to tackle a project to reproduce 1890s jeans, so called No.2 Jeans. In 1890 when the rivet patent expired and a lot of work wear brands started selling riveted jeans, what kind of jeans did Levis, King of jeans, make? Let’s　unravel the secrets of 201 jeans.

Of course, it would be impossible for me to reproduce such a special vintage pieces on my own so this time I decided to ask the help of Mr. Koizumi, a renowned vintage denim collector.

When I spoke to him for the first time, I wondered why he would give us such an opportunity, so I asked with a little trepidation.
Then Mr. Koizumi said, “If I have something special in Japan, I would like it to be utilized by the Japanese denim industry. ”
“These vintage pieces are temporally in my hands only while I am alive. But you know? Better spent than spared.”

When I started TCB, people in the industry said to me, “TCB shows its factory to customers and don’t you think you are a little too much open about the industry and the techniques? ”
However, my way of thinking is that it’s not that I invented jeans or anything, nor did I make the sewing machine but I just happen to be in a position where I own vintage sewing machines and some vintage pieces. Therefore, I think it’s much more important to pass a baton I have to the next generation, which is, for me, to keep and share how vintage jeans used to be made.
After talking about our own ways of thinking, I think we’ve started to develop a kind of special bonding with Mr. Koizumi.

Without further ado, TCB is releasing No.2 Jeans on 20/Apr.
I’ve got too much to explain about the fabric but I’ll keep posting about the details of our No.2 reproduction on the coming days!
