1890年代のVintageを実際にじっくり観て生地の糸を再現しようと思った時に強く感じた事。
いつもの様に経糸を⚪︎番にしよう。という次元の話では無いよねという事でした。

まずの綿の話。
綿はタテヨコ共にテキサス綿
綿というのは冷静に考えると農業。
現在は品種改良が進み色も使いやすく白いとの事。
流石にその流れには逆らえないんですが130年前の綿はもっと燻んでたのでは無いか？というアドバイスを受けて、まずコットンを130年前のイメージの色に染める所からスタートしました。（その後に経糸はインディゴに染めてしまうのに…..)

激しく縦落ちした糸をずっと見てると太い箇所もあれば細い箇所も有る。
だったら前代未聞な事をしないとと思い出した答えは
一つの生地に５種類の糸を混ぜるという結論に至りました。
糸は数字が小さくなるほど太くなるんですが
経糸
6番　スラブ長めの弱いムラ
7番　スラブ強めで（６番や８番に比べて倍のムラ）
8番　スラブ長めで弱いムラ

緯糸
10番　石川紡機で出来る天然のムラ

そして今回はもう一つ特別にクレイジーな事をしようと思い、Vintageに入ってた白い筋を繊維を化学的に分析してくれる機関に見て貰い異原糸を再現するために３番手の糸も作りました。
新品時から目視で何処に3番が織り込まれてるか確認できますし基本的には3番から色落ちが始まると思います。

以上　合計で5種類の糸が織りなす生地を私自身も早く着用したくてウズウズしております。
糸の名前にTCB1890と書かれてるのが完全別注糸の証。
シールに貼られたファンシーヤーンという名前も気に入りました。

After the microscopic analysis on the yarns used on the vintage No.2 pair,I felt that the standard methods for the fabric replication is definitely not enough.

Speaking of the cotton.
It’s of Texas cotton for both the warps and the wefts. Now that the breed improvement has advanced and the cottons got whiter and mixed with less and less foreign matters but the cottons from 130 years ago must have been dull colored mixed with more impurities so we have started to dye the cotton first even though we dye them in indigo in the end.

Looking at the strong vertical faded thread, you can still notice the thick and the narrow part in one thread even with naked eyes. We were determined to do whatever it takes to do a perfect reproduction and we’ve reached the answer to use 5 different yarns to weave this fabric, which is surely unprecedented even in the JP denim industry.

The smaller the yarn count is, the thicker the yarn gets and this is the break-down for the 5 different yarns we use.
-For the wefts
yarn count 6 with a subtle irregularity and a long span of slubbiness.
yarn count 7 with a twice stronger irregularity than the other 2 yarns and a short & strong span of slubbiness.
and yarn count 8 with a subtle irregularity and a long span of slubbiness.

-For the warps
yarn count 10 with natural irregularity brought by vintage spinning machines.

In addition to the said 4 yarns, we also developed yarn count 3, super thick yarn so you can easily find it with naked eyes and the threads will be the first ones to get faded for sure. I’m super excited myself to experience the fade of this fabric.

On the label, it says TCB 1890, which is a proof of our exclusive fabric.
the sticker also says “Fancy yarns” in Japanese letters. I don’t know what it exactly means but they must be fancy, haha.
