アメリカ・アーカンソーの田舎町で、
生涯をかけて人々の肖像を撮り続けた写真家、
Mike Disfarmer。
名前も知られない農夫や主婦、
日曜日のためだけの服を着た少年や少女。
彼の写真に写っているのは、
“かっこよくなろうとしない人たちの、本当の姿”でした。
そんなディスファーマーの写真が、
昔からずっと好きで、
今日はほんの少しだけ、
あの無骨で、静かなトーンを意識して撮影しました。
年末年始の TCB SHOP の功労賞。
未来の副店長候補・キュンの、
少し不器用で、でも真っ直ぐな雰囲気と、
このトーンが、不思議とよく似合いました。

In a small rural town in Arkansas,
there lived a photographer who spent his life
quietly taking portraits of ordinary people —
Mike Disfarmer.
Farmers and housewives whose names were never recorded.
Boys and girls wearing their Sunday-best clothes,
just for that one day of the week.
What appeared in his photographs
were not people trying to look cool,
but their true, unembellished selves.
I have loved Disfarmer’s work for a long time,
and today, I tried to echo — just a little —
that quiet, rugged tone in this photograph.
This image was taken to honor
our year-end and New Year TCB SHOP award.
The honest, slightly awkward, yet sincere atmosphere of Kyun,
a future assistant store manager,
felt strangely perfect in this light.
