年始の仕事始めは

お正月らしいことは、ほとんどしない私ですが、 毎年正月の特番を観ては、 クローゼットから服を引っ張り出したり、 足りないものがあれば買いに出かけている自分がいます。
そんな自分が、嫌いじゃありません。
むしろそれは、 「今年もまた、ちゃんと服と向き合おう」という 年の始まりの合図のような気がしています。
皆さんも、TCBじゃなくても構いません。
年始に「今年はこれと付き合っていこう」と思える 一着に出会えたら、きっと楽しいはずです。
もちろん、 「そういえば、あれと合わせよう」と クローゼットを漁って、 久しぶりに引っ張り出して着るのも楽しい時間。 流行だけを追っていると、 なかなかできない遊びですが、 ヘリテージな服を大切にしていると、 20年ぶりに引っ張り出した服でも、 まるで昨日から着ているかのように、 自然に着られてしまう。
それも、私たちのような服の楽しみ方なのかもしれません。
……きっと、 雪柄を引っ張り出した人、いるでしょうね。笑

For my first day back at work this year,
I chose a Late S40’s setup,
a light blue snow-pattern shirt from SURE,
and brown reverse-leather Red Wing moc-toe boots.
I don’t really do anything that feels “New Year-like,”
but every year, while watching New Year TV specials,
I somehow find myself pulling clothes out of my closet
or heading out to buy what I feel is missing.
And I don’t dislike that version of myself.
In fact, it feels like a quiet signal —
a sign that says,
“This year too, I’m going to face my clothes properly.”
It doesn’t have to be TCB.
If you can find one piece at the start of the year and think,
“I’ll spend this year with this,”
that alone makes the beginning of the year feel special.
Of course,
it’s also fun to dig through your closet and think,
“Oh, I should wear this with that,”
and bring out pieces you haven’t worn in a long time.
When you only chase trends,
this kind of play is hard to enjoy.
But when you take care of heritage clothing,
even something you pull out after 20 years
can be worn naturally —
as if you had been wearing it just yesterday.
That might be one of the pleasures
of dressing the way we do.
…There must be someone out there
who pulled out a snow-pattern piece too, right?
