ステンシルワークの風の中で
TCBのデッキスペースでは、ステンシルワークの真っ最中。
10年以上続けてきた SEAMENシリーズ のステンシルは、ずっと筆でペンキを入れてきました。
ですが今回は、あえてスプレー。
スプレーが“楽だから”ではなく、狙った表情を出すにはスプレーでなければいけなかった。
ただそれだけの理由です。
それにしてもこの日、私が知る限りここ数ヶ月で一番風が強かった。
シンナーの匂いで酔わないよう、屋外でしかできない作業。
でも風が強すぎて、服が飛ばないようにと、
近くにあったトイレットペーパーの段ボールを風除けにして、
一生懸命仕上げてくれています。
On the deck space at TCB, stencil work was in full swing.
For more than ten years, we’ve been hand-painting the SEAMEN series stencils with a brush.
But this time, we chose to use a spray.
Not because it’s easier—
but because the expression we wanted could only be achieved with spray paint.
That’s the only reason.
Still, that day was probably the windiest we’ve had in months.
Since the thinner fumes make it impossible to work indoors,
the team was out in the open air—
fighting the wind so the clothes wouldn’t blow away,
using a cardboard box that once held toilet paper as a windbreak,
and carefully finishing each piece.
Watching them work,
I felt like the spirit of freedom in expression
was quietly taking shape in front of me.
