TCBの服作りは、 多くの場合、一着のVintageをテーブルに広げるところから始まります。
採寸をして、観察して、 その服が持っている時代の空気を読み取っていく。
だからある意味、 Baggy 50’s は少しだけチャレンジでした。
ベースになっているのは、 TCBが一番長く作り続けている 50’s。
でもシルエットは、 Vintageをそのままなぞるのではなく、 TCBなりの解釈で作ったオリジナルです。
Ryo君も気に入って、 ずっと穿き続けてくれています。
このパンツの色落ちの特徴は、 細かいヒゲというより、大きなヒゲ。
スリムジーンズのように 真横に走るヒゲではなく、 少し下に落ちるような 下がりヒゲが入っていきます。
今回合わせているジャケットは Late S40’s。
こんな事を書くと本末転倒かもしれませんが、 TCBは年代ごとに生地を分析して服を作っています
。 そして一つだけ、はっきりしている事があります。
年代が違えば、色落ちも違う。
当然、 同じ色落ちは存在しません。
だから時々、こんな質問を受けます。
「ジャケットとパンツで年代の違う生地を合わせると変ですか？」
でも写真の通り、 まったく違和感はありません。
むしろ、 当時も、 ジャケットは大戦期に買ったもの。
でもパンツは毎日穿くから、先にボロボロになる。
だからパンツだけ最近買い替えた。 気がつけば、 上下で年代が少しズレている。
そんな理由で 生地の違う服を着ていた人も きっと多かったんじゃないかと思います。
決して不自然な事ではなくて、 むしろ当時のリアルな日常だったのかもしれません。
ワークウェアは “揃えて着るもの”というより、 “使いながら増えていくもの”。
そんな想像をしながら合わせてみるのも、 デニムの面白さの一つだと思います。
あ、そうそう。 Baggy 50’s Restockしました。

At TCB, most of our garments begin the same way —
with a single vintage piece laid out on the table.
We measure it, study it, and try to read the atmosphere of the era that the garment came from.
In that sense, Baggy 50’s was a bit of a challenge.
It is based on our 50’s jeans, a model we have been making longer than any other at TCB.
But the silhouette itself was created as our own interpretation rather than simply tracing the original vintage piece.
Ryo has been wearing a pair for quite some time and really enjoys them.
One of the characteristics of how these pants fade is the whiskers.
Rather than the fine whiskers you often see, they tend to appear larger and bolder.
Instead of running straight across like on slimmer jeans,
they fall slightly downward — creating what we call “dropping whiskers.”
The jacket paired with them here is our Late S40’s.
This might sound a little ironic, but at TCB we analyze denim fabrics by era when making our garments.
And there is one thing that becomes very clear:
Different eras fade differently.
Naturally, no two eras produce the same kind of fading.
Because of that, we sometimes receive this question:
“Does it look strange to wear a jacket and jeans made from fabrics inspired by different eras?”
But as you can see in these photos,
there is no sense of mismatch at all.
In fact, if you imagine how people actually lived back then, it makes perfect sense.
A jacket might have been bought during the wartime years,
but pants were worn every day and would wear out much faster.
So the pants would be replaced more recently.
Before you know it,
the jacket and pants end up coming from slightly different eras.
Because of that, many people probably wore garments made from fabrics that were a little different from each other.
It wasn’t unnatural at all.
In fact, it may have simply been part of everyday life back then.
Workwear wasn’t something people wore as a perfectly matching set.
It was something that grew over time as it was used.
Imagining those kinds of stories while putting together an outfit
is also one of the joys of denim.
