TCBではこれまで、USED加工のジーンズは作ってきませんでした。
それは、僕ら自身が日々ジーンズを穿き、リアルに色落ちを楽しめる環境にあったから。

でもある時、お客様からの言葉が引っかかりました。
「この飾ってあるUSEDサンプル、売ってもらえませんか？」

サンプルは、いろんな方に色落ちの参考として見てほしいから、販売はしてきませんでした。
けれど——

だったら最初から、色落ちの美しさを詰め込んだ一着を作るのはどうだろう？

そんな想いから、このプロジェクトは始まりました。

僕自身、USED加工のジーンズはほとんど穿いたことがありません。
毎日ジーンズを穿いて仕事できる自分は、自然と“時間”で色落ちさせることができます。
だからこそ、お客様の「穿き込みたいけど時間がない」という声に、どこか鈍くなっていたのかもしれません。

でも、加工職人の現場を見て、あらためて気づきました。
USED加工もまた、たくさんの人の手と、知識と、経験の積み重ねでできているということを。

私は早速S40’s JKを作る時に参考にしたS506XXのVintageをとある方の所に持ち込んで観て貰いました。
その方は
新品のデニムを、まるでタイムマシンにかけたかのようにヴィンテージの風合いへと仕上げる男、Kさん。
彼の手仕事は“再現”を超えた“再構築”。
彼の作業場には、各年代のヴィンテージデニムが展示されており。
色、ヒゲ、ダメージ、汚れ……のインスピレーションのソースになります。

彼はそれらを手に取り、見つめ、感じて、そして再び布の上に「時間」を描いていきます。

しかもKさん自身、普段から生デニムを着用し最近はTCBのGジャンを育てています。
「ただ加工している」のではなく、「体で理解した経年変化」を“手”で再現している。
児島にはたくさんの加工職人がいますが、Kさんのように“育てながら加工する”姿勢には、僕らも学ぶことが多いのです。

冒頭に説明しました
「この飾ってあるUSEDサンプル、売ってもらえませんか？」
あの時の問いに、ようやくこう答えられるようになりました。
「もちろんです」と。

TCB has never made jeans or denim jackets with a washed finish.
That’s because we can wear jeans as a work uniform and enjoy the fade process on a daily basis.
But then one day, a customer said something that stuck with me.
“Could you sell me these faded samples?”

We don’t sell samples because we want people to see them as a reference for fading.
… What if we made a pair of jeans that have a beautiful faded look right from the start?

That’s what started this project.
I myself have hardly ever worn washed jeans.
Being someone who wears jeans to work every day, I can naturally fade them over time.
That’s why I may have been somewhat insensitive to the voices of customers who say, “I want to wear them in, but I don’t have the time.”

Used processing is also the result of the hands, knowledge, and experience of craftsmanship.
I immediately took the Vintage S506XX, which I used as a reference when making the S40’s Jacket, to a certain person to have a look at it.
That person is Mr. K, a man who takes new denim and gives it a vintage feel as if it were put into a time machine.
His handiwork goes beyond “reproduction” to “reconstruction.” In his workshop, vintage denim from various eras is on display.
It is a source of inspiration for color, whiskers, damage, dirt, etc. He picks them up, looks at them, feels them, and then draws “time” on the fabric again.

Moreover, Mr. K himself has been enjoying TCB denim jackets.
He does not just ”process” denim to make it look vintage-like but “reproduces the aging process” on denim.
There are many processing craftsmen in Kojima, and of course they are skilled in every point but of course many of them do it as their job but I can feel the biggest love to denim and fade from Mr. K.
That’s why he is one of the most respected man in this denim processing industry and why I wanted to do our first faded collection.

If someone tells me,
“Would you sell me this faded sample?”

I’m finally able to answer that question.
“Of course.”
