ヒーローの背中には、いつも秘密のファスナーが隠れている。

でも、堂々と前に付いていたって良いじゃないかと思う。

旅行に行くたび、予定より増えてしまった荷物をスーツケースに無理やり押し込みながら、
ファスナーという発明の凄さを何度も再認識する。

ボタンフライのジーンズに慣れた私にとって、
Gジャンがファスナーになったからといって利便性が劇的に上がるかと言われると、正直よく分からない。

それでも、もし1950年代に後発でGジャン市場へ飛び込んだブランドがあったなら。
他社を追いかけるために、思いつく限りの装備を全部乗せしたんじゃないか。

そう思うと、少し愛おしく感じてしまいます。

前日のBlogでも書きましたが、
事のスピードが目まぐるしく変わる昨今。
世の中にはα版やβ版のまま走り出し、育っていくプロダクトが増えています。

そんな流れを眺めながら、
品番に「Z」が付く服を作りたくなりました。

今回のZは、最終形態の意味ではありません。
ただ少しだけ、フル装備になったという意味です。

フロントジップ。
丸カン。
アクションプリーツ。
そして6本のゴム。

もし1947年にGジャンを発表したブランドが後発だったなら、
きっとこれくらいの装備で追随したんじゃないか。

フロントのプリーツも面白い存在です。
サイズ調整のためと言われながら、実際は丸カンで留められていて調整できない。

それでも残り続けた。

もしかすると、これは初めて
“仕様”ではなく“デザイン”としてプリーツが認識された瞬間なのかもしれません。

今回私たちが作ったのは、
1950年代のフロントジップ、丸カン、アクションプリーツ、
そして6本のゴムを備えたジャケット。

後発のフル装備。
ZとはZipperのZ。

Rancher’z Jacket発売です。
The hero always hides a secret zipper on the back.
But honestly, I sometimes think it would be perfectly fine to place it proudly on the front.
Every time I travel and try to force more luggage than planned into a suitcase,
I’m reminded again how brilliant the invention of the zipper really is.
As someone used to button-fly jeans,
I can’t say switching a denim jacket to a zipper dramatically improves convenience.
And yet —
if there had been a latecomer brand entering the denim jacket market in the 1950s,
I imagine they would have loaded it with every feature they could think of,
trying to catch up with the others.
When I think about it that way,
it feels strangely lovable.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog,
we live in a time where things move at an overwhelming speed.
Products today often start running while still in their alpha or beta phase, growing as they go.
Watching that trend,
I felt like making a garment with a “Z” in its品番.
This Z does not mean a final form.
It simply means — slightly fully equipped.
Front zipper.
Ring pulls.
Action pleats.
And six elastic sections.
If a brand launching a G-jacket in 1947 had been a late entrant,
perhaps this is exactly the kind of full-spec version they would have made.
The front pleats are particularly fascinating.
They were said to be for size adjustment, yet fixed by ring hardware — meaning they can’t actually be adjusted.
And still, they remained.
Maybe this was the moment when pleats stopped being purely a “function”
and started being recognized as “design.”
What we created this time is a jacket inspired by the 1950s,
equipped with a front zipper, ring pulls, action pleats, and six elastic sections.
A fully equipped latecomer.
Z stands for Zipper.
