事のスピードが目まぐるしく変わる昨今。
きっと昔は、どの業種も納得いくまでローンチを伸ばすことが当たり前でした。
でも今は、オンライン上でアップデートが可能なプロダクトはα版やβ版と世の中に出しながら育てていくことも珍しくない時代。
そんな流れを眺めながら、 品番に「Z」が付く服を作りたくなりました。
もちろん、私たちが狙ったZは最終形態という意味ではありません。
社会の窓の話でもなければ、胸に亀の字を書いた超人の話でも、桃色のアイドルの話でもない。
今回のZは、ただ少しだけ“フル装備”になったという意味です。
Zが付いて、アクションプリーツが入り、ゴムも付く。
もし1947年にGジャンを発表したブランドが後発だったなら、 これくらいの装備で他社を追いかけたんじゃないか。
そんな想像をしながら作った一着です。
フロントのプリーツも面白い存在です。 一説によると、ステッチを解けばサイズを調整できる仕様だったとも言われていますが、 実際は丸カンで留められているので、どう考えてもアジャストのしようがない。
それでも残り続けた。
もしかすると、 これは初めて“仕様”ではなく“デザイン”としてプリーツを認識した瞬間なのかもしれません。

Things move at a dizzying speed these days.
Perhaps in the past, no matter the industry, it was normal to delay a launch until everything felt fully complete.
But now, for products that can be updated online, it’s not unusual to release them as alpha or beta versions and let them evolve in public.
Watching that shift,
I felt like creating a piece with a “Z” in the model name.
Of course, the “Z” we aimed for does not mean a final form.
It’s not about the zipper at the front, nor about a superhuman with a kanji on his chest, nor about a pink idol group.
This time, “Z” simply means being slightly more “fully equipped.”
Add a Z, add action pleats, add elastic details.
If a brand had entered the G-jacket scene as a latecomer in 1947,
I imagine this is the kind of full setup they might have made in order to catch up with the competition.
That idea was in my mind while creating this piece.
The front pleats are also an interesting detail.
There’s a theory that they were originally meant to allow size adjustment by removing the stitching,
but in reality they’re fixed with metal rings, making any real adjustment impossible.
And yet, the detail remained.
Maybe this was the moment when pleats were first recognized not as a function, but as a design.
