何年か前、
Super Payday のヴィンテージにあった
ブラウンヒッコリーを元に、
特別に別注で生地を作りました。

あの生地を作るうえで、
一番の壁になったのが
「ミニマム」という現実でした。

通常のデニムであれば、
経糸と緯糸をそれぞれ
経済ロット分仕込めば生産が可能です。
でも、ブラウンヒッコリーは違います。

ブラウンの糸と、
インディゴの糸。
経糸だけでも単純計算で倍。
ミニマムの壁も、その分高くなります。

正直に言えば、
少し覚悟のいる挑戦でした。

けれど、
前回は結果的に足りなかった。
再生産を望む声も、
想像以上に多く届きました。

だから今回、
もう一度この生地と向き合うことにしました。

ベースに選んだのは
Cat Head。

501系のアイテムでは
生地を横展開することに、
どこかタブー意識がありました。
でも、ストアブランド系のカバーオールを眺めていると、
「もしかすると、
デニムやヒッコリーは
昔から横断的に使われていたのかもしれない」
そんな妄想が、頭をよぎったのです。

結果的に、
前回のブラウンヒッコリーを
すでに持っている方にも、
もう一度手に取ってもらえる
“言い訳”もできました（笑）。

そんな名前で、
今回も静かに送り出します。
A few years ago,
we created a special custom fabric inspired by a vintage brown hickory piece from Super Payday.
When making that fabric,
the biggest challenge we faced was the reality of minimum production quantities.
With standard denim,
production is possible as long as the warp and weft yarns are prepared in economical lots.
But brown hickory is different.
Brown yarns,
and indigo yarns.
Just preparing the warp alone requires nearly double the amount.
Naturally, the minimums rise accordingly.
To be honest,
it was a challenge that required a certain level of commitment.
And yet,
last time, we ended up with too little.
The number of requests for a reissue was far greater than we had expected.
So this time,
we decided to face this fabric once again.
For the base,
we chose the Cat Head.
With classic 501-style items,
there has always been an unspoken rule against expanding fabrics across different designs.
But as I looked at old store-brand coveralls,
a thought crossed my mind:
Maybe denim and hickory have always been used more freely,
crossing categories without rigid boundaries.
That idea stayed with me.
As a result,
this also gave us a small excuse
for those who already own the previous brown hickory version
to pick it up once again. (laughs)

With that name,
we quietly send it out into the world once more.
