3年前、
「みんなでお揃いのワークウェアを着て仕事をしたい」
と社内で盛り上がって誕生したのが Black Cat Crew Suit でした。
当時、Black Bear 社の転がりポケットとラグランスリーブに魅了され、
サンプリングさせていただいたのが始まりです。
前回の発売時のブログにも、こう書いています。
TCBでも若手が増え、休憩時間の雰囲気が
まるで“男子校の部室”みたいになってきた。
UNIFORM 的なものを作るのはアリかな？
と私自身も盛り上がってきました。
丁度ブランド10周年という節目でもあり、
“スタッフのために何かを作る” という行為が
TCBらしくて面白いとも感じていました。
昔から、ミリタリーやスポーツを見ていても感じますが、
チームでお揃いを着ることで生まれるパワーというのは
確かに存在するんだと思います。
そして不思議なことに、
ここ最近さまざまな生地で発表しているカバーオールへの想いと、
この話が自然と繋がってきました。
気に入ったワークウェアやお揃いの服を着ることで
自然と働くスイッチが入る。
そして、個々ではなく “ひとつのCrew” として動ける。
その空気は、TCBにとってとても大切なものです。
今日のチャンネルつるっとさんでは、
スタッフの藤江が「3年着込んだ Crew Suits」を紹介しています。
色も表情も育ち、きっと彼自身も3年前より成長したのだと思います。
その姿を見ていたら、
私自身が児島に来たばかりの頃のことをふと思い出しました。
仕事がしんどくて、辞めたくなったり、逃げ出したくなったり……
そんな気持ちが何度も襲ってきた時期がありました。
でも、いつも穿いていたジーンズを見ながら
「このジーンズが良い色になるまでは、頑張ってみようかな」
と、自分を奮い立たせていました。
その決意を忘れては思い出し、また忘れ……気づけば25年です。
TCBでは子供服を作った時にも、
サイズアウトを心配するお客様にこう話してきました。
「サイズアウトは成長の証。
おめでとうの印だから、部屋に飾ってください。
いつか古いアルバムのように意味を持ち始めます。」
それはきっと、ジーンズも同じです。
ボロボロになって着られなくなっても、
部屋に掛けてあるだけで、
“苦くて、でも忘れられない思い出の詰まった一着”
として、持ち主の人生を静かに照らしてくれるはずです。
Three years ago,
when the idea of “wearing matching workwear as a team” started buzzing inside the company,
the Black Cat Crew Suit was born.
At the time, I was fascinated by the rolling pockets and raglan sleeves of Black Bear’s workwear,
and that admiration led us to sample their design.
In the blog from the previous release, I wrote something like this:
With more young staff joining TCB,
the atmosphere during break time was starting to feel
like a boys’ locker room.
I began to think that creating some kind of UNIFORM
might actually be a good idea.
It also happened to be our 10th anniversary as a brand,
and making something for the staff felt very TCB—
fun, meaningful, and full of spirit.
I’ve always believed, whether in the military or sports,
that there is real power in a team wearing matching uniforms.
That collective strength is undeniable.
And strangely enough,
those thoughts began to connect naturally with the feelings I’ve had
while releasing various coveralls these past months.
When you wear workwear you truly like—
or when everyone wears the same piece—
it naturally flips your “work switch.”
You stop being individuals,
and you move as one Crew.
That atmosphere is incredibly important to TCB.
On today’s “Channel Tsurutto,”
Fujie introduces his Crew Suit that he has worn daily for three years.
The color, the texture—everything has aged beautifully,
and I’m sure he himself has grown just as much since then.
Watching him reminded me of when I first came to Kojima.
There were many days when work felt unbearably hard—
days I wanted to quit, run away, disappear.
Those moments came again and again.
But I would look at the jeans I wore every day and tell myself:
“Maybe I’ll keep going until these jeans fade into something beautiful.”
I would forget that promise, then remember it,
then forget it again…
and before I knew it, 25 years had passed.
At TCB, when customers worry about their children outgrowing kids’ jeans,
I always tell them:
“Sizing out is a sign of growth.
It’s something to celebrate.
Don’t see it negatively—hang it in the room.
One day it will hold meaning,
like an old photo in a family album.”
And I think the same is true for jeans.
Even when they’re worn out and can no longer be worn,
hanging them on the wall turns them into
a piece filled with “bitter, unforgettable memories”—
a garment that quietly illuminates the life of the person who lived in it.
