ワークウエアの魅力のひとつは、何と言っても“機能美”にあります。
本来は機能として生まれたディテールが、今ではデザインとして愛されている——そこが面白いところです。

現代で一着の服に五種類もの生地を使えば、それは“カラーバリエーション”として捉えられるでしょう。
でもワークウエアでは、「どんな現場で着るのか」「どんな作業を想定したのか」という必然性が生地選びの軸だったのかもしれません。

生成りのワークウェアを見ると、当時の“安価だったから”という理由もある一方、
「触れるモノを汚してはいけない職種だったのかな？」
「ブッチャーのような食系の現場だったのかも？」
——そんな想像も広がります。

逆に、油にまみれたヒッコリーのVintageを目にすると
「汚れを目立たせないためだよな」
と、用途と素材がストレートに結びついているのが分かります。
生地の種類、色、そして職業やコーポレートカラー。
そうした“理由ある選択”が積み重なっていたと思うと、ワークウエアは本当にワクワクする世界です。

今回の Cat Head グリーンダックは、そんなワークウエアの楽しみを“カラーバリエーションとして味わう”提案として作りました。
色の元ネタは、デトロイトのグリーンダック。
デトロイトらしい自動車ガレージの匂いも感じられるし、意外と上品にも着られる絶妙な色味に仕上がったと思います。

通常、ダックのカバーオールといえば10oz前後が多いですが、今回はヨコ糸に 5 番手という太番手を使った 13.5oz。
触れた瞬間に“重厚感”を楽しんでいただけるはずです。
I believe one of the biggest attractions of work wear is the beauty of functionality.
What’s fascinating is that details that were originally born for use are now beloved as design elements.
If five different fabrics were used on a single piece of clothing today, it would probably be seen as a color variation.
But with workwear, the choice of fabric may have been driven by necessity, such as what kind of workplace it would be worn in and what kind of work it was intended for.

When I see off-white workwear, while one reason is that it was “affordable” at the time,
it also makes me wonder, “Maybe it was for a job where you need to be cautious about getting some color shifted to products?”
“Perhaps it was for a food-related job like a butcher?”
On the other hand, when I see vintage hickory wood covered in oil, It must be to hide the stains.

I can see the direct connection between purpose and material.
The type of fabric, the color, the occupation, and the corporate colors.
When you think about the accumulation of such reasonable choices, the world of workwear is truly exciting, isn’t it?

This time, the Cat Head Green Duck was created as a way to enjoy the fun of workwear through color variations.
The color is inspired by the Detroits’ iconic Green Duck. You can feel the scent of Detroit’s car garages, and I think it’s an exquisite color that can be worn with a surprisingly elegant feel.
Normally, canvas coveralls are around 10oz, but this time we’ve used a thick 5-count weft thread in 13.5oz.
You’ll be able to enjoy its solid feel the moment you touch it.
