いつも圧倒的なスピードで変貌したTCBの服の写真を送ってくれて、私たちを驚かせてくれる、アメリカ・ミネソタ州の大工さん。
今回は Cat Face Pull Over。
発売日が4月だったはずなので、長く着ていたとしても、まだ3ヶ月ほどの着用という計算です。笑
この生地は、Vintage の M35 Denim Pullover を参考に再現したもの。
経糸9番、緯糸14番。
縦と横で、あえて糸の太さを大きく変えて織っていただきました。
さらに、細く長いスラブ糸を紡績してもらうことで、着込んだ時に表情が出るように設計しています。
2×1組織特有の、最初は少し大人しい表情。
新品の時には、そこまで強く主張しない生地かもしれません。
でも、着て、洗って、働いて、擦れていくうちに、まるで猫を被っていたかのように本性を見せてくる。
そんな、付き合っていて本当に楽しい生地です。
作った私たち自身も、もちろん色落ちの姿を想像しながら生地を作っています。
でも、リアルワーカーが実際の仕事の中で着てくれることで、その想像をはるかに超えた答えが返ってくることがあります。
私たちの想像よりも先に答え合わせをしてくれる。
本当にありがたいことです。
A carpenter from Minnesota, USA, always surprises us by sending photos of TCB garments that have changed at an incredible speed.
This time, it’s the Cat Face Pull Over.
If I remember correctly, it was released in April, so even if he has been wearing it from the very beginning, that means it has only been about three months. Haha.
The fabric was recreated with reference to a vintage M35 Denim Pullover.
We used 9-count yarn for the warp and 14-count yarn for the weft, intentionally making a clear difference in thickness between the vertical and horizontal yarns.
We also had a long, fine slub yarn spun for this fabric, so that its character would start to appear more clearly with wear.
At first, the 2×1 weave gives the fabric a rather quiet expression.
When it is new, it may not speak too loudly.
But once it is worn, washed, worked in, and rubbed through daily use, it starts to reveal its true character — almost as if it had been pretending to be calm all along.
That is what makes this fabric so enjoyable to live with.
Of course, when we make a fabric, we imagine how it will age.
But sometimes, when a real worker wears it in his actual daily work, the answer comes back to us in a way that goes far beyond what we had imagined.
He gives us the answer before our imagination can catch up.
And for that, we are truly grateful.
