Beyond the Rangefinder

最近は撮影といえば骨の撮影が多かったのですが、
今日は久しぶりに服を着た撮影。
私もカメラが好きなので、
プロに失礼ながらつい突っ込んで聞いてしまう
Leicaの先生、生津さん。
写真が素敵なのはもちろんですが、
仕事の時もTCBを着てくれているので
50’sの色落ちが本当に良い顔になっています。
手前味噌ですが、
耳のアタリも素晴らしい。
まるで50年代、ランドリーが普及し始めた頃のVintageのような
色落ちと耳の出方です。
少しLeicaトークになりますが、
生津さんのレンズを見ると
意外とF値を絞って撮られているのが分かります。
一方私は、
Noctiluxを開放で撮るのが大好き。
右目にピントを合わせると左目がボケるくらいの、
あのフワッとした世界が好きです。
そして何よりも大事なのが、
メンタル童貞感。
ラブソングもラブストーリーも洋服もそうですが、
モテてる男が作るよりも、
「こいつ、モテなかったんだろうな…」
そんな気配が垣間見える作品に、
なぜか惹かれてしまいます。
そんな生津さんが撮った写真を、
今月末も楽しみにしています(笑)
Recently, most of my photo shoots have been… bones.
So today was a refreshing change — photographing someone actually wearing clothes again.
Since I’m also a camera enthusiast, I can’t help but ask questions —
perhaps a bit rudely for a professional —
to my Leica mentor, Mr. Namazu.
Of course his photos are wonderful,
but what I also love is that he wears TCB while he works.
His 50’s jeans have developed a truly beautiful character.
Maybe I’m a bit biased,
but the selvedge fading is especially nice.
It really reminds me of vintage jeans from the early 1950s,
around the time when laundries started becoming common —
that particular kind of fading and the way the selvedge edge shows itself.
A little Leica talk here.
If you look closely at Mr. Namazu’s lens settings,
you’ll notice he often stops down the aperture more than you might expect.
As for me,
I love shooting my Noctilux wide open.
When I focus on the right eye,
the left eye softly melts out of focus.
That dreamy, floating look is something I can’t resist.
But more important than anything else is what I like to call
“the mental virgin spirit.”
It applies to love songs, love stories, and even clothing.
Rather than something made by a guy who’s clearly popular with women,
I’m always drawn to work that quietly makes you think,
“This guy probably wasn’t very popular…”
There’s something honest about that feeling.
Anyway,
I’m already looking forward to seeing the photos
Mr. Namazu will shoot later this month.
