いつも織ネームや金具など、
副資材でお世話になっているシンちゃん。
偶然にも同い年という事もあって、
最近はすっかりフランクなお付き合いになりました。
打ち合わせと言いながら、
8割がアイスブレイク。
1割がスモールトーク。
そして残りの1割で仕事をします（笑）。
でも、その1割が実は一番大事だったりします。
古着のネームを一緒に見ながら、
素材や織り方を相談したり。
こちらが作ったデータを見てもらって、
「これ、本当に織れる？」
「線、ちゃんと出る？」
そんな机上では分からない部分を確認していきます。
ネームやボタンって、本当に小さいじゃないですか。
データの上では問題なく見えても、
実際に織物になると、
ミリ単位の線が消えたり、
表情が変わったりする。
『猫の顔、ちょっとチープになりますけど大丈夫ですか？』
『チープな顔になるから良いじゃん（笑）』
そんなやり取りを、
面倒くさがらずに付き合ってくれるのがありがたい。
モノ作りって、
大きな決断よりも、
こういう小さな確認の積み重ねなのかもしれません。
余談ですが。
シンちゃん、TCBに来る時は
毎回ちゃんとTCBを上下で着て来てくれます。
きっと次のアポイントでは、
その会社の服に着替えてるんだろうな…なんて想像しながら（笑）。
普段、スーツで働く意味ってあまり分かってなかったけど、
スーツって “TOP に対してのTOP” なんだなと、
ちょっとだけ再確認した日でした。
Shin-chan is someone we always rely on for woven labels, buttons, and other small materials that go into our products.
By coincidence, we’re the same age, and lately our relationship has become very casual and friendly.
Even though we call it a meeting,
about 80% is icebreaking,
10% is small talk,
and only the remaining 10% is actual work (laughs).
But honestly, that last 10% is the most important part.
We look at vintage labels together, discussing materials and weaving methods.
I show him the data we’ve created and ask things like,
“Can this actually be woven?”
“Will this line really show up?”
These are the kinds of things you can’t fully understand just by looking at a screen.
Labels and buttons are incredibly small.
Something that looks fine in the data can change once it becomes real fabric —
lines disappear within millimeters,
expressions change.
“The cat’s face might look a bit cheap — is that okay?”
“Because it looks cheap, it’s good!” (laughs)
I’m grateful that he never gets tired of having these kinds of conversations with me.
Making things might not be about big decisions after all,
but rather about repeating small confirmations like this, over and over.
By the way —
When Shin-chan comes to TCB, he always shows up wearing TCB from head to toe.
I sometimes imagine that before his next appointment,
he probably changes into that company’s clothes (laughs).
I never really understood the meaning of working in a suit before,
but that day reminded me that a suit is a kind of “TOP facing another TOP.”
