「ジーンズを作っていて何が良かったですか？」
「起業して何が楽しいですか？」

私はいつも同じ答えを返します。
「ジーンズを作るために会社を作らなかったら、出逢えなかった縁に恵まれることです。」

その中でも特に語りたいのが、ヴィンテージコレクターの古泉さんとの出逢いです。

既にTCBでは1stモデルを作っていましたが、古泉さんから「スモールボタンのスクエアカラーの個体をぜひサンプリングしてほしい」との提案を受け、特別なモデルを実現しました。また、30’sPTを作る際には、革ラベルに「C」のスタンプが残る貴重な個体をお借りすることができ、それを基に細部までこだわり抜いたジーンズを作ることができました。

そして今年は、1890年のNo2という「ガラス越しに観るだけでも幸運」とされる個体を実際にお借りし、4種類の糸を混ぜた特別な生地を作り、1本針のミシンで縫製を再現しました。

こうしたプロジェクトを通じて、私は古泉さんに甘えるばかりで、「いつか恩返しを」と思い続けてきました。そんな中、このたび古泉さんが独立され、別注のご相談を受けました。

今回、古泉さんから届いたお題は、「論より証拠」というこれまでの視点を超え、現実と希望、そして想像が入り混じる、新しい挑戦の提案でした。詳細については私からではなく、ぜひ古泉さんから直接聞いてみてください。

私がジーンズを作りながら感じてきた「縁」というものを、着用されるお客様にも感じていただけたら幸いです。

The reason for making jeans while being grateful for the connections that jeans brought to us.

I am sometimes asked the following questions.
“What is good about making jeans?”
“What is fun about starting a business?”

I always answer the same.
“If I hadn’t started a company to make jeans, I would have not been able to have the connections that I have now .”

Among them, the one I especially want to talk about is my meeting with Mr. Koizumi, a vintage collector.

I had already made the 1st model at TCB, but Mr. Koizumi suggested that I “sample a small button, square color Type 1,” and I thought it’s a special model. Also, when making the 30’s PT, I was able to borrow a precious pair with a “C” stamp remaining on the leather patch, and with the pair I was able to make jeans with full attentions to details.

And this year, I actually borrowed a1890 No2, which is said to be “lucky even to look at it through glass,” made a special fabric with a mixture of four types of thread, and reproduced the sewing with a single-needle sewing machine.

Through these projects, I have been relying on Mr. Koizumi and have been thinking, “I will repay you someday.” Meanwhile, Koizumi has become independent and has consulted us on a special order for his own shop opening.

The theme that Koizumi sent us this time was a proposal for a new challenge that goes beyond the conventional perspective of “seeing speaks volumes” and mixes reality, hope, and imagination. For details, please ask Koizumi directly, not me.
